At The Little School of the Crooked Row inc., all students — whether enrolled in the Regular or Enriched stream — will learn and master cursive writing (also known as “joined-up” writing) from an early age.  This foundational skill is introduced early on to strengthen fine motor development, literacy, and writing fluency.

We also implement specialized reading and writing strategies combined with visual arts, designed to foster a love of learning in young readers and writers and to be confident toward literacy. These creative methods are designed to accelerate learning while motivating students who may face challenges with literacy.

At the same time, we introduce children to music education from an early age. Students who demonstrate strong interest and commitment may pursue the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) program — a curriculum rooted exclusively in the classical music tradition. Unlike popular music programs, the RCM offers a wide range of instruments while maintaining a focus on classical repertoire, technique, and musical expression.

Whether your child is in the Regular or Enriched curriculum, they will engage with both music and modern foreign languages, making these two artistic and cultural fields central to their early academic experience.

Class 1

Elementary School:

Kindergarten - Grade 5
Grades K–5

At The Little School of the Crooked Row inc., we proudly follow New Brunswick’s official curriculum while enriching it through meaningful field trip experiences. These outings allow students to explore diverse regions within New Brunswick as well as other Maritime provinces such as Prince Edward Island. By doing so, we aim to strengthen their sense of belonging to the Maritimes and help them apply, in a practical way, what they learn in the classroom.

These experiences reflect the values promoted by the New Brunswick Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Development:

"That learning occurs both within and outside schools and that some individuals learn better in non-traditional environments."

"That the primary role of a teacher is to foster student learning and to prepare students to be lifelong learners."

At our school, we nurture curiosity, discovery, and a passion for learning that we hope will last a lifetime. New Brunswick’s unique marine and coastal environments provide countless opportunities for exploration and inspiration. Our school projects are designed to motivate students in their learning journey, and we hope that some of them may one day pursue marine biology at the University of New Brunswick (UNB).

Elementary school is a pivotal time in a child’s development, where seeds of future interests and academic paths are planted.

Class 2

Middle School:

Grades 6–8

At The Little School of the Crooked Row inc., we believe that language learning goes hand in hand with cultural exploration. Starting in Grade 7, our middle school students are offered unique opportunities to broaden their horizons beyond the Maritimes by participating in immersive experiences across Canada’s East Coast and other provinces.

These experiences allow students to develop greater cultural awareness, improve communication skills, and foster empathy by discovering new regions, languages, and ways of life. It's not only about learning a second language — it's about becoming an integrative, open-minded individual ready to engage with diverse communities.

French as a Second Language (FSL): National Enrichment Opportunities

To support our students in developing their French language skills, The Little School Down the Road proudly promotes participation in the Explore program offered through Canada’s Official Languages Program (OLP). Starting at age 13, eligible students have the opportunity to attend immersive French programs in renowned institutions such as:

  • Université de Moncton, New Brunswick
Students are immersed in Acadian culture while exploring the vibrant city of Moncton. Activities may include trips to Hopewell Rocks, local beaches in Shediac and Cap-Pelé, aerial adventures at TreeGo, and visits to cultural sites like Resurgo Place. The program blends classroom learning with cultural immersion, offering students an unforgettable and transformative experience.

  • University of Ottawa, Ontario

  • Collège Boréal in Sudbury, Ontario

  • Glendon Campus at York University in Toronto, Ontario

  • Other OLP-partner institutions across Canada

As described by Explore (OLP):

“Explore is a life-changing experience that provides students with an intensive French immersion opportunity, while helping them build independence, gain cultural insight, and connect with peers from across the country. Participants leave the program with improved language skills, new friendships, and a stronger sense of confidence.”

We believe that these immersive programs help shape future leaders by nurturing curiosity, independence, and intercultural competence. They also contribute directly to one of our key educational goals: developing lifelong learners equipped to thrive in a bilingual and multicultural Canada.

Class 3

High School:

Grades 9–12

At the high school level, our philosophy is to empower students to think internationally and live internationally. Our enriched curriculum encourages critical thinking by comparing Canadian societal issues with those in other parts of the world. Through real-world engagement—particularly experiential volunteer work—students observe global challenges firsthand, form meaningful connections with youth abroad, and contribute actively to communities in France, Italy, and Spain.

These experiences directly support the Mission of Education outlined in the Curriculum of New Brunswick by the Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Development, which is “to guide learners to achieve their full potential and contribute to a changing, productive, and democratic society.”

Through international travel and language immersion in French, Spanish, and Italian, students deepen their second-language proficiency and cultural understanding. Volunteer opportunities are organized in collaboration with trusted partners in France, with full support and guidance from our experienced educational team.

Our program is rooted in the competencies outlined by the Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Development of New Brunswick, especially the commitment to “guide students toward acquiring the skills required to learn how to learn.” By helping global communities and engaging in altruistic actions, students gain an unparalleled education that transcends the classroom.

They emerge as selfless global citizens, becoming adept navigators of a multifaceted world who actively construct their own identities through service to others. By engaging in altruistic actions and supporting global communities, these young adults develop the capacity to navigate diverse perspectives, challenges, and cultures with empathy and intentionality. In doing so, they contribute meaningfully to an ever-evolving global society while shaping their identities as compassionate and empowered world citizens.
